The Lost Draft is a coffee shop in Nolita with a cinematic twist.
Inspired by the owner’s career in filmmaking, it’s an environment where writers
and thinkers are encouraged to sip on a high-quality espresso and work on their

Stick to the Script
When prompted with
branding a film-themed café, our first concern was making sure we avoided
gimmicks and clichés. No one needs a Universal Studios coffee shop in lower
Manhattan. With that in mind, we decided to focus on gaining inspiration from
the pre-production side of the business, before trucks and tripods or crews and
cameras: scriptwriting.
The result is heavily
over-copied paper, coffee stains, scribbled handwritten notes and markings,
type layouts designed to resemble screenplays. We incorporated color inversion
(white paper, black type / black paper, white type) to symbolize the “night and
day” grind that professional creative writing often demands.
